Emerged Technology

Interactive whiteboards have emerged as an alternative to flipcharts and whiteboards or chalkboards and has shaped learning in the classroom. Interactive whiteboards can be used by teachers to present information using text, images, video and sound. They have the ability to captivate the attention of learners who have grown up being exposed to so much technology. Interactive whiteboards can also appeal to a variety of learning styles and can serve as a great tool for meeting the needs of special education students.

Some of the problems with this technology include the learning gap of older teachers or teachers who are more hesitant when it comes to new technology. Training is essential for teachers to be able to use them comfortably and effectively.

  1. The Interactive Smart Board is a powerful tool that can be used to integrate learning among students, teachers and content. Most students who learn with the Smart Board will tell you that they love it! Check out my blog if you have time. I chose the same emergent technology.
    Thanks

  2. Sara,

When I was teaching at the elementary school I had a Mimio and I loved it. When I taught in Virginia I used a Smartboard and I also loved it. I do agree with you that the seasoned teachers do not like to us this new form of technology and overall I feel as it is hurting the students when it is not used. This year my classroom has an intelliboard, which has been up on the wall for at least four years, but it was never used by the teacher. I love using interactive boards and I do not understand why teachers do not want to change with the time.

  3. Hello Sara:

Technology coordinators purchased Promethean Boards for teachers at my school. Teachers signed up for a professional development course so they could learn how to use the interactive boards. Upon completing the courses, each teacher received a board. Due to limited funds, some teachers had to wait to get their boards, but eventually the boards were purchased. Unfortunately a few teachers chose not to take the course so they did not receive boards. The good thing is all students have access to interactive learning because every language arts and math teacher uses Promethean boards.
